Palisades Medical Center Opens New Pediatric Rehabilitation Facility

Palisades Medical Center recently held a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception to celebrate the expansion of its Pediatric Rehabilitation Program.

The Pediatric Rehabilitation Program is now located in a new, larger facility on the second floor of the Medical Center. The program supports the special needs of children with various diagnoses including developmental delay, autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, torticollis, musculoskeletal conditions and genetic disorders. A full range of services are offered including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Audiology services.

"Our Pediatric Rehabilitation Program fills a critical need in our community for children who are not achieving their physical, functional and communicative potential," said Ingrid Pais, PT, Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Palisades Medical Center. "Until now, parents often had to travel out of the immediate area to find services for their children or have had delays in receiving services due to a shortage of pediatric rehabilitation programs."

Therapists at the Pediatric Rehabilitation Program provide a comprehensive evaluation of each child and use a family-centered approach to help each child reach his/her potential. Services include:

  • Physical Therapy — focuses on developing gross motor skills, including balance, coordination, mobility and motor planning.
  • Occupational Therapy — focuses on developing fine motor skills, including handwriting, visual/perceptual, attention and cognitive skills.
  • Speech Therapy — focuses on developing oral-motor ability, feeding abilities and articulation.
  • Audiology — audiometric testing.
